2. The Secretary of State for Foreign
Affairs informed the Cabinet that, apart from
information and telegrams which had already been
circulated, the only fresh information was to the
effect that the French Government had now agreed
that definite co-operation between the different
troops that might be involved at Shanghai was
necessary, and had sent instructions for the
despatch of another Annanite Battalion to
Shanghai (Paris telegrain No.35).
In regard to a telegram from the Commander-in-
Chief, China, No.821 of February 22nd the
Secretary of State for War informed the Cabinet
that the War Office proposed to give Colonel Gordon
the Commandant of the Shanghai Volunteer Corps,
the rank of Colonel Commandant.
